

The Craftsman qualification is an intensive course which potential candidates must provide evidence of their skill, resourcefulness and technique at the art of photography. Originally an American qualification, British photographers of sufficient skill are able to put their skills to the test in an attempt to qualify into this exclusive fraternity.
To achieve this exceptional standard, three complete albums must be entered for review. These albums are required to demonstrate a high degree of excellence in the use of light, backgrounds, settings and natural props and the ability to create shots that will provide beautiful memories for your clients.
A set of negatives must then be provided to prove the exposure, framing and composition techniques are of the very highest standard and are not the result laboratory work.
After this exhaustive process several sets of 20 x 16 photographic prints are made available to the assessors to display the photographers artistic qualities. Interviews with past clients are also sought in order to determine the professional qualities and services of the candidate.
The Craftsman standard is one of the most elusive photography qualification s available to the professional photographer and it was designed for only the very best photographers to attain. At the time of writing only eighty professional wedding photographers in the United Kingdom have been able to achieve this grade as the standard is so high.
Craftsmen are often sought as teachers throughout the United Kingdom.
